According to reports, when Luka Doncic discussed his contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers last summer, he sought clarity on the franchise’s long-term vision and roster direction. The Lakers reportedly promised to build a team similar to the Dallas Mavericks’ 2024 NBA Finals squad, which was specifically designed to maximize Doncic’s abilities. This plan includes acquiring a lob-catching center who can protect the rim, surrounding the Slovenian star with reliable three-and-D players, and adding another playmaker to share offensive responsibilities.
The Lakers are expected to aggressively pursue these roster upgrades during the upcoming offseason as they continue to build around their superstar.
Doncic has played eight seasons overall, averaging 29.2 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 8.2 assists in 514 regular-season games. He has been selected to five All-Star games and won the Rookie of the Year award.
