The Colombian singer has brought her music to three previous World Cups, and for the 2026 edition in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, she will once again be involved as the performer of the official tournament song.
One of the most iconic couples in world football—now separated—was formed by former Barcelona star Gerard Piqué (39) and Colombian artist Shakira Mebarak (49). Beyond the typical gossip, the FIFA World Cup always played a special role in their relationship. The 2010 tournament, which the central defender won with Spain, was what ultimately brought them together.
However, although Piqué lifted the trophy in South Africa, Shakira is a record-breaking machine in music, and in 2026 she will surpass her ex-husband’s appearances in the sport’s biggest international competition—one way or another.
Shakira began her World Cup journey by performing at one of the ceremonies for Germany 2006, singing her globally known hit “Hips Don’t Lie”. For South Africa 2010, she had the opportunity to perform the official World Cup song for the first time—the famous “Waka Waka”, which seemed to carry Vicente del Bosque’s Spanish squad toward their first star. She also did not miss the chance to be part of Brazil 2014, where her partner’s team did not fare well (exiting in the group stage), but it was a success for her with the single “La La La (Brazil 2014)” alongside Carlinhos Brown. It was not the official tournament track, but it was one of the most sung.
Now, 12 years later, Shakira will appear at her fourth World Cup—one more than Piqué—with confirmation that she is the performer of the official song for the 2026 tournament, “Dai Dai” (meaning “let’s go, let’s go” in Italian).
